Appearance

Koy would rather be caught dead than seen in public in a sloppy outfit. She considers herself a walking billboard for her wares and will always be wearing the latest high-end designs from her store, The Heavenly Boutique, even if doing so is entirely impractical for certain situations. Her auburn hair is naturally curly but she will wear it straight if the occasion and the outfit call for it. While the nickname "Legs" comes from her status as the Legislator for the Daughters of Decadence (DoD for short) Koy does possess the lengthy gams typically required for such a title. She also bears the intense forest-green Aldamiras eyes passed along for generations on her mother's side of the family.

Physical assessment

After years of fighting in the rings Koy has learned a thing or two about covering up her bruises for the sake of her business associates. When she is amongst friends she tends to stash the foundation and wear her injuries proudly. Her knuckles are rubbed raw from smashing them into dueling opponents and her hands bear the brunt of sewing for a living. She has always lived an athletic and active lifestyle that has provided her with a lean and toned body. A workaholic and troubled sleeper, Koy may appear worn down and exhausted when she does not properly take care of herself.

Identifying features

Bearing a collection of battered bits and pieces Koy has two longlasting scars that she takes care to hide from the public. Starting at her inner thigh and ending below the right buttock are five small flame-shaped scars linked together courtesy of her first husband. The pervasiveness of the Blackfire sorcery that caused this injury made it impossible for trained specialists in Elanthia to remove its mark completely despite Koy's wishes. These scars are the reason Koy fears foreign magic.

The second scar that only three people have seen is the thin vertical line on the underside of her right wrist. This was a self-inflicted injury that Koy prefers to conceal under a wide assortment of bracelets and watches.

Inventory and equipment

Koy wears a titanium man's ring with five embedded diamonds on a white gold chain around her neck. The diamonds are from the first five Diamond Quest titles won by Matthew Simon. She also wears an engagement ring with a four carat round-brilliant diamond center stone held above the shank by a pair of diamond set platinum ribbons and a platinum wedding band.

Koy usually keeps a notepad and colored pencils with her at all times to capture any sudden inspirations for clothing designs.

Weapons

  • Her fists
  • Her heels
  • Her killer sense of style

Koy does also own and carry a pair of brass knuckles given to her one holiday by Harris D'Artainian when she can fit them into her purse. She will from time to time brandish a billy club when acting as the Fashion Police and rehabilitating the fashion criminals of RhyDin.

Only when she returns home to Elanthia does she use the longbow her brother Beldron VanDuran crafted for her when they were younger.

Personality and traits

Koy is a product of nurture over nature. She's marked by tragedy - had it not been for certain instances in her life where the people closest to her betrayed, deserted or were stolen from her she would be quite the happy-go-lucky elf wearing terribly practical clothing back in her village in Langenfirth. Instead she's become the masochistic fashionista of RhyDin, an ungrateful survivor constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop when life seems too good.

She's never been book smart but her imagination picks up the slack. Her work and her personal life let her travel between worlds - she can schmooze wealthy stuck-up clients and crack jokes with the crudest the Rings have to offer. In times of crisis Koy's inability to act, her desire to dwell in the past and live in fear of the future can be her biggest downfall. She is loyal but operates on her own set of standards - you won't see her out fighting for the common good unless someone she loves is at risk. She tries to reconcile the fact that more often than not she's a walking paradox, a hypocrite in the worst of ways - violent and graceful, loving and mistrusting, withdrawn and feeling, insane and rational, fearless and terrified.

Most days she needs to remind herself: Breathe in. Breathe out. Repeat.

Mannerisms

When Koy's imagination starts to run away with her she tends to talk faster than usual. It's also difficult to pull her out of her train of thought once she starts on a particular path. Although she has gotten better at interacting with the young children of her friends and family Koy often withdraws and becomes distracted whenever small children, particularly little girls, are around. She fidgets with the various bracelets she wears on her right wrist and her hands in general when she's uncomfortable or distressed and she scrunches her nose when she doesn't like something. Getting knocked around in a ring so often hasn't helped Koy's memory much - she usually calls most people she meets 'bub' to save the embarrassment of not remembering their names. She has gotten so accustomed to the word that she uses it even when she knows a person's name.

Quick to flash the crooked grin she inherited from her father, Koy often masks her feelings behind her smile. She is prone to depression and episodes of madness that have caused her to lash out at those closest to her. In the heat of the moment Koy can lose her temper and throw a punch or three. Her self-destructive tendencies go hand in hand with her ongoing struggle with alcoholism. When she is on the losing side of this battle she is likely to pick whiskey as her self-administered poison of choice.

Religion

Koy believes in the Thirteen Immortals of Elanthia. She pays the most homage to Everild, god of war and warriors, and his positive aspect Kuniyo. Koy has wavered in her devotion to the Gods at times, questioning and blaming them for the tragedies in her life. She tries to maintain her faith but is not as devout in her worship as her mother would have liked her to be.

Language and Dialect

The fishing village of Langenfirth where Koy grew up is a crossroads for travelers and merchants of various races. As such Koy learned Common as her first language and the local dialect of Gweth, a derivative from an ancient language used by Human and Elven traders before the time of the Seven-Starred Empire, as her second. She understands Elven better than she can speak or write in the language. Koy's pronunciation of some words is uncommon even in Langenfirth as she learned to copy her mother's Qi accent and not the Firthian one, though the differences are not drastic.

She knows approximately five words in French. Her fellow Daughter of Decadence PJ Ramirez also taught Koy how to say important phrases in Spanish such as "Another beer, now!"

Training, education and skills

Koy received a basic education of reading, writing and arithmetic until she reached the age where all Langenfirth girls left the schoolhouse to learn those skills that would prepare them for being a good wife from the women in the village. The value of cooking, sewing, cleaning and making a home warm and inviting was instilled in Koy at an early age and has never left her. Along with sewing this training involved drawing and other fine arts. These would eventually translate into a lucrative career in RhyDin as a clothing designer.

Luckily for Koy her parents were open-minded enough to allow her to take up training with the Rangers Guild alongside her older brother Beldron who was already making his way through the ranks. From there she learned how to survive in the wilderness with a focus on stealth, agility, and thinking on one's feet. She can hunt, skin and prepare her own food from this training if needed. She is a decent shot with a longbow.

Keeping up with and learning from her brother taught Koy how to run, swim, and climb with the best of them. Once she left Langenfirth for RhyDin and opened up her own clothing store Koy soon learned how to run, fight, and climb in heels. She has yet to attempt swimming in heels because it would be detrimental to the welfare of most of her shoes to get them wet.

Upon her initial move to RhyDin Koy earned money by bartending at several dive bars. That coupled with her own affinity for alcohol has made her quite the expert at mixing drinks.

Spellbook

From her Ranger training and her elven heritage Koy does have some minor magic available to her. The few spells she was taught involved nature and such tasks as foraging and tracking prey through the forests. After her encounter with Blackfire sorcery Koy has chosen to steer clear of magic in general.

Dueling

Koy has been an active participant of the Duel of Fists since the summer of 1998. She currently holds the rank of Emerald and has held the opal MoonBeryl previously. Despite speaking out against the Opals Koy kept MoonBeryl in her possession for nearly a year after winning the yellow stone for taking second place during a Diamond Quest. She has never publicly disclosed the reasons for this beyond stating she would uphold the sport's traditions until someone took the Opal from her.

As a fist fighter Koy is best known around the Outback not for being impossible to beat but for her viciousness inside the rings. She refuses to take it easy on opponents and enjoys hitting with as much force as she can muster in hopes of inspiring others to do the same in return. Her masochistic nature inside the rings began shortly after returning from a failed attempt to track down her missing second husband and daughter. Koy attributes her increased finesse in the rings to the personal training she has received from one of the best fighters in the sport, Matthew Simon.

Koy recently took on fighting with Team Fist in the Iron Fists League. Starting with the first full season she took on the role of assistant captain. After two seasons in the IFL Koy has a 7-4 regular season record and a 1-1 playoff record. She has earned the privilege of being invited as her team representative to the IFL Powerhouse Party tournaments for both seasons. At the second tournament Koy reached the finals but lost the right to wear the Kiowa Belt she helped the Chairman redesign to Kelten Tarkenstone.

  • "Koyliak...? Oh! Right, yeah, I don't know her personally, but I've heard about her. She owns that Heavenly Boutique place or whatever, right? I've seen her designs, they're not so great. I mean, they are if yer into that hoity toity fancy high fashion stuff, but I like Fire's stuff a lot better. In my opinion, The Stitch is a much better place to be shoppin' for clothing. But I really wish Fire would take the competition more seriously- she should fight to be the new fashioni- fashionst- fashionwhatever of Rhydin!" - Carley Qui'Ama (LL 10:30, 17 December 2007 (PST))
  • "I like Koy. A lot. She helped me through that hard time with Jordan, even when she didn't know me. She accepts me as being around, i think, but I don't know that I'll ever be as close to her as I am to Charlie. I see some of myself in her sometimes, but more extreme, so I try not to think about it. I do know that she's the most fun out of anyone to get in a ring with. Oh, she also figured out a way to make Sart hit her... I'd like to figure that out myself. Just because it seems pointless to fight and just kinda tap each other.... Anyway, I envy her sense of style and poise. I'd like to be more that way, but just don't have the ability." Erin Dunbridge (User:Dani 10:38 17 December 2007 (PST))
  • "Koy makes it almost impossible not to love her on some level. Though I have to admit she makes it incredibly difficult to do so when she's sticking one of those heels into your gut or punching you in the face. I guess that's just a part of her special charm." Harris D'Artainian (Harris 12:22, 17 December 2007 (PST))
  • "Koy's not the kind of person you just happen to meet every day on the street. The woman's got her problems but no matter what happens, she's still the gorgeous Fashionista. I love that she can take a hit better than most men and will turn around hit you harder than you've ever been hit before. Few woman can pull something like that off, in heels no less. It's funny, we don't talk a lot but I think we understand each other pretty well; I think we both just know how to appreciate fighting and how alive it can make you feel. Or maybe it's just that we can pull off black and blue so well?" Jewell Ravenlock (Jewell 14:07, 06 January 2008 (EST))
  • Gnort Dragoon-Talanador totally digs Koy. She's sweet, sexy, masochistic and has a certain, as the French say.. I don't know what. It's not often you can meet a girl who can dish it out as well as take it. Koy just happens to want to take it more than she dishes it out. Yeah, maybe she's a little unbalanced. • "Koy hits hard... really really hard. That's not always so bad, if you have something on your mind you don't want to think about. Just have Koy punch you and I promise you won't be thinking about it anymore. I like Koy, even if she's supposed to be competition or whatever... She's nice, always been friendly with me, and very stylish. Someday I'd actually like to work with her on some collaborative designs, but I don't think Carley would be too thrilled with that..." - Lydia Loran(LL 17:27, 9 February 2008 (PST))
