Appearance

The first thing people will often notice is the long blue hair, curling its way down to her mid back. People who have tried to describe it can never quite decide exactly what shade of blue it is: midnight, Caribbean, cobalt, baby, sky? She will tell people that her hair resembles the varying colors of the sea, and that’s as close as anyone will ever get at nailing the color down.

The color of her eyes is easier to describe—grey. Sometimes it’s a warm, comforting grey, or grey with a sparkle of silver to it. Other times, they’re the cold grey of a winter’s day. Whatever mood she might be in, they’re always a shade of grey.

Because she does not “wear” her wings, people often mistake her for an elf after seeing the elongated, pointy ears that her blue locks cover up as often as not. It’s an easy mistake to make as Jewell does possess, in addition to the pointy ears, the facial bone structure consistent with a number of different elves, notably high cheekbones and an aristocratic nose. For those who see her with her wings (shimmering, silver wings with faint blue veins running throughout) there is no mistaking what she really is: a Faerie.

Another physical feature she often covers up or controls with her glamour is the luminosity of her skin. Those who see her in the dark might notice a faint glow emitting from her. Jewell often controls this glow to the point that it remains faint or non-existent; without controlling it, she could possibly light up a room.

Although most people know her in her mostly humanoid form (at 5’4”), Jewell has the ability to physically change her size, not just the appearance of her size, at will. The smallest she usually becomes is about six inches while the form most are familiar with is her largest.

Physical assessment

Jewell’s bone structure is more petite than most humans; it would probably be considered delicate if she did not work out so much. She keeps her body in top physical shape, spending a good deal of her time lately working out and training. Although she used to be all angles and sharp lines, her body has become more curved with maturity and motherhood.

Identifying features

Jewell, as of late, has been keeping all scars hidden under a glamour illusion. For those whom she reveals her scars to or for those who can see through the illusion, there are many:

  • A long thin scar runs across her lower abdomen from the c-section of her second child.
  • One runs from beneath her right ear down across her throat to her clavicle.
  • Two matching ones that mar the front and back of both shoulders from twin daggers.
  • A scar on the inside of her right leg from a bullet.
  • Countless thin cuts along the tops of both arms.
  • A more recent circular cigarette burn on her left arm.
  • Three more recent cuts on the lower, underside of each arm.
  • Various other very faint scars scattered across her body from wounds in the past.

All of these scars, when seen, look as though they are fading or have faded almost completely. Sometimes they are nothing more than soft silver lines on her pearly skin.

One other identify feature that she often keeps hidden is how the skin of her lower arms is lighter than that of her upper arms; this lightness extends like the tongues of flames from her fingertips to her elbows and is the result of her burning herself by overusing mana.

Dress, Inventory, and Equipment

Jewell’s attire changes with her mood. There are generally two different types of clothing she will wear:

  • When it comes to fighting or she is just feeling more independent, Jewell can be found sporting her favorite leather pants. She’ll pair these with anything from combat boots, to stilettos, to these soft Elvish boots and slippers she has recently become fond of (good for traction and moving silently).
  • Jewell often indulges in her more feminine side, which loves dresses! She doesn’t limit herself to the kind, her closet running the gamut from medieval and renaissance garb to a few modern pieces, as well as dresses of Elvish and fae-make. In the spring, she loves a simple wrap dress made of flower petals.

In addition to clothing, at any time Jewell has a number of jewelry and ornaments on her person:

  • A bracelet, grafted of silver glittering links, which has a small sword charm hanging from it; this was a gift from Wyheree Ravenlock Black to Skyler Jackson Chamberland that Jewell kept upon his death.
  • The snow-white tail feather from an exotic and very rare Fire Bird. The shaft of the feather is beaded with topaz and rose quartz crystals, wrapped with a white leather thong so that it can be braided into Jewell’s hair or hung as decoration. This was given to her by Lady FireSong as a sign of friendship.
  • One of two mother-of-pearl rings. Alex Ravenlock gave one to her as an engagement ring; Gene Colista, her sister Cher’s son, gave her the other one. She will sometimes wear the one given to her by Gene.
  • Any number of true silver earrings on her pointed ears.

Armor

Jewell used to wear light, leather armor, and the occasional mail vest. However, it has been years since she has worn such on a regular basis. Now, when she patrols the WestEnd, she tends to wear a black catsuit made out of an especially durable material that is supposedly more resistant than light leather armor and more flexible.

Weapons

Jewell prefers to use her body and her magic to weapons. She does, however, possess a variety of weapons including, but not limited to:

  • A long sword of Elvish make.
  • A short sword of Elvish make, most often used for dueling.
  • A claymore, which she rarely uses due to its weight.
  • A switchblade often found in her back pocket.
  • A bright blue leather whip with a silver spike on the bottom of the handgrip given to her by Chryrie Nightstar.
  • Brass knuckles.
  • A range of blades smaller than daggers, craftily stored in different body holsters as well as in her boots.

Although rarely armed beyond her switchblade and a few small knives, Jewell has been trained to use any and all objects at her disposal as weapons. She has been known to use:

  • Barstools
  • Bar tables
  • The bar itself
  • Bottles of alcohol
  • Alcohol and matches (one need only ask Tommy Hill Figure how this one works)
  • Wombats
  • Beer mugs
  • Beer pitchers
  • Beer itself
  • Fellow patrons (this is usually a last resort as Jewell has found that she will later need to wield a weapon against those she used as a weapon because they can get cranky)

Other Treasured Objects

  • A mirror compact with the title “Empress” engraved on the front. This is really just a secret communicator for the girls of the Forsaken Blades Guild to use amongst each other.
  • A golden ring with the letters “FB” on the front. This is a magic decoder ring, created for the sole purpose of understanding Rory O’Corr when he speaks. Its secondary purpose was to grant wishes to the wearer when used in conjunction with the other users who possess the same rings.
  • A silver hand mirror finely etched with fae runes given to her by Briarius Ravensheart.

Personality and traits

Jewell is: short-tempered, combative, fears abandonment, vindictive, self-destructive, claustrophobic, stubborn, lacks in self-confidence, a flirt, very young, loud mouthed, and emotionally needy.

Jewell is: infinitely patient, versatile, reliable, loyal, strong, social, light-hearted, loving, dependable, perceptive, a good listener, fun, adventurous, and slightly crazy.

Jewell is not the shallow socialite she often appears to be. Ever since childhood, she has been accustomed to changing roles as she needs them. When she wants, she can be blithe and sit amongst friends, chatting as if there is nothing else in the world that matters; she’ll even play tricks and cause trouble for the fun of it like a stereotypical Faerie. At other times, she finds it fitting to be single-minded in her task and no-nonsense. Those who know her best may find her extremely paradoxical. She does not wear her heart on her sleeve like many will think. Her actions and displayed emotions are heavily affected for show. Only when she is at her lowest does she find it hard to hide behind the masks she has created.

Mannerisms

  • When confused, Jewell’s brow furrows and her nose wrinkles up. This can also be a sign of distaste.
  • When worried, she’ll be found biting at the inside of her cheek or pulling at the skin of her lips.
  • Oftentimes her eyes will go unfocused and she’ll look like she is far away or listening to something only she can hear.
  • When impatient, she’ll rock on her feet or bounce in place.
  • When frustrated, she’ll run her fingers into her hair and pull at the roots in aggravation.
  • If feeling playful, she’ll pretend to be pensive and stroke her non-existent beard.
  • She’ll wrap her arms around herself in a self-hug when feeling vulnerable or exposed.
  • When meeting people, Jewell will often run her eyes over them almost as if she is undressing them with her eyes. She is really just trying to evaluate them, both physically and with her other-senses, to get an idea of who and what they are.
  • She has been known to sniff people at times. This is just a cover for magically sensing them out, although she does like when people smell nice.

Training, education and skills

Jewell was tutored from an early age to become a lady of the state in order to appropriately play the role of either ruler of her world (in the chance that her brother died or was otherwise unable to rule) or to become a leading member of her planetary senate. As such, she is well versed in reading, writing, arithmetic, and other such necessary skills. Before leaving home, she began her training as a politician and was taught the skills of a socialite. She was instructed in: singing, dancing, needlepoint, painting, public speaking, carrying on meaningless yet pleasant conversation, and looking out for and making important social connections. Her form was tailored to be pleasing to the eye, her voice to the ear. She knows how to play nice with the best of them.

In addition to learning the finer manners of the upper class, Jewell was also instructed in the art of war, as she was the chosen Guardian of her planet. Although young, she had begun her training in basic physical and magical combat before she left home. She was trained to wield a variety of weapons including a sword, large pole arm, a bow, and smaller knives. More emphasized was her initial training in the manipulation and utilization of mana energy via planetary ley lines; she did not get to finish her formal training in this field and has carried on the study on her own. Also covered in her brief formal Guardian training was: large scale military war tactics, melee combat, one-on-one fighting, the very basics of guerrilla warfare, basic terrorist tactics, interrogation tactics, interrogation survival tactics, infiltration strategies, etc.

Where her training is extremely lacking is in her Faerie inherited abilities. Although she has been taught to speak Elvish as well as the Faerie language, she has not had much formal instruction in the use of glamour, no more than the basic instruction in the manipulation of her element, and little instruction in the ways of court life. Much of what she has learned in these areas is from self-instruction with what little formal instruction she had serving as a foundation.

Upon coming to Rhydin, she has learned much from simple observation as well as from extensive reading and studying in addition to practice.

Combat: Non-Magical

  • Swordplay
  • Fist fighting (both brawling and more formalized)
  • Basic skill with throwing knives
  • Basic skill with archery

Combat: Magical

  • Manipulation of water in any form but most extensively in liquid form. She can change the form water is in, even if it is present within a person’s body. She can also shape her element, guide it, and even control such a thing as water pressure.
  • Utilization of the ley lines and manipulation of mana energy.
  • Glamour. This is perhaps her most deadly ability. Glamour allows for her to craft illusions, changing the way she is perceived by others. She can control how others perceive things such as other people, their environment, etc. She can take this ability further by manipulating the emotions of others and even (with training) go as far as controlling their minds and memories, implanting false ones and creating new ones.

Other

  • Healing. Jewell does not often advertise this ability as she does not have much formal training in it and it takes a lot of energy from herself to accomplish a sufficient healing.
  • Gravity manipulation. Jewell has the ability to fly with or without her wings. Her manipulation of gravity also helps her in having impeccable balance—when she’s trying to—and aids her in being flexible.
  • Glamour. Not only does glamour allow for the crafting of illusions, it is also the magic which allows Jewell to change her size.
  • Speaking several Elvish dialects.
  • Walking silently and lightly no matter the surface.

Biography

Jewell did not start out in Rhydin nor did she arrive at the nexus point by pure chance or accident. Fleeing her home world and her past, Jewell chose to come to Rhydin and has made the planet and city her home over the last ten plus years.

Origin

Daughter to Eilulam Vanael and Ademas Therakin Aquarian II, Jewell was born as the second child to the ruling house of the planet Aquarius in the Halaxi system, Adromeda galaxy.

Eilulam was the second child to a well-to-do family in the Faerie Lands. Ademas was the bastard son of the former king and his Faerie mistress; his heritage was unknown to all but a few and most assumed he was fully human as his non-human physical features were hidden under a strong illusion until the day he died. Eilulam left the Lands to marry Ademas and create a tentative union between their people. This union lasted until their daughter was around the age of five.

Childhood & Young Adulthood

When Jewell was five, both her parents were killed in terrorist attack on the throne from an anti-faerie rebel group. Jewell’s older brother Jemini was crowned king and whisked into political duties while Jewell was left mostly behind and to do her own thing between tutoring.

It was discovered fairly early on in her life that she was to be the next chosen Guardian of her planet. The former Guardian, Trusa Halwinn, trained her until she was twelve; at that point, the former Guardian was killed and Jewell took on her position.

At thirteen, Jewell met Robin, second son to the ruling family of another planet in the Halaxi system, Pyra. It was love at first sight for her, and their meeting marked the start of a two-and-half year on again off again physically and emotionally abusive relationship. Months after the miscarriage of her first child—an event she blames entirely on Robin until this day—Jewell was forced into an engagement with Robin at her brother’s decree in order to maintain peace in the system.

To avoid the imminent marriage, Jewell fled her home world at the age of sixteen for Rhydin.

Upon Coming to Rhydin

Soon after arriving in Rhydin, Jewell became involved in a relationship with a young man and became pregnant, eventually giving birth to her first daughter, Amanda. Around the same time, she met Brian Ravenlock and was soon adopted into the Ravenlock Family. Through Brian, she met Alex Ravenlock who she married and had her other children—Brian Moradin, Kerrick, and Devyn—with. The three other children currently in her family are actually the biological children of her adopted sister, Celfina Cher Colista, who died. Jewell took her children in and has raised them as her own.

At some point in the year 2002 RSC, Jewell left Rhydin to return to her home world. For reasons yet unknown, she did not return until two years later in autumn of 2004 RSC. Upon her return, she found Alex involved in a relationship with Lain Amthras. Although Jewell and Alex eventually got back together again, their relationship was not consistent.

When Jewell returned to Rhydin in 2004 RSC, she quickly became best friends with Tara Rynieyn, otherwise known as Da Cockroach Killa, and Am’thyst Oak. Together with others, these girls formed the core of the Forsaken Blades Guild. Through Tara, Jewell made many other friends in Rhydin and often claims that Tara is the only reason she decided to stay in Rhydin upon returning home. She also gained the nickname The Empress from Tara. Anyone that knew Jewell before she met Tara and Amthy can attest to the fact that those two ladies have forever made an impression on her life.

After several years of marriage, Alex and Jewell finally parted ways in the spring of 2006 RSC, after Jewell met and began a relationship with Skyler Jackson Chamberland. While dating Skyler, Jewell became involved in sword dueling, which Skyler often did, and then fist dueling. During this time, she also strengthened her relationship with Isuelt DeRomiano, who she had met through Tara, and the other Scathachian Sisters. She began helping them out with the trouble they were experiencing in the WestEnd, becoming a target for their enemy as well.

After Skyler’s death in January 2007 RSC, Jewell met and began a relationship with Captain Stephen Kidd, who she married on June 6, 2007 RSC. Together, they spend a good amount of their time sailing on his ship, the Pride & Fury. Early on in their relationship, Jewell suffered a small mental breakdown after an encounter with Vincent Smith that caused her to mentally regress back to the time when she was emotionally and physically abused. With the help of Stephen and her own iron will, Jewell managed to get herself back on track once more.

In the summer of 2007, Jewell signed on to be a member of House Dragoon-Talanador and that fall agreed to be a member of Dragoon-Talanador's Misfits dueling team for Season 525. Although joining mid-season, Jewell had an impressive record by the end of the season (especially compared to her first season of TDL on the Innkeepers), ending the season with five out of six duels won and an MPDPD of 4.29 (the second highest in the league for the season).

After spending the fall months sailing with her husband, Jewell returned to Rhydin for the winter where she again took up responsibilities with the Scathachian Sisters in protecting the WestEnd. In addition, on December 28, 2007, Jewell opened up the restaurant Rhydin House on the Waterfront in an attempt to revitalize a rundown section of the city she loves so much.

The spring of 2008 RSC passed in a rather uneventful manner save for one major change in Jewell's life: the return of Tara Rynieyn to Rhydin. Although having less and less free time due to other pursuits, Jewell was none the less thrilled with the return of her best friend.

When Dreams invaded the city, circa June 2008 RSC, Jewell found herself in a most unlikely situation: her husband's first wife, Annie, apparently returned from the dead and her first beau, Robin, also returned from the dead soon after. After a period of being stalked by Robin and avoiding Stephen due to the situation with Annie, Jewell went through several physical confrontations with her ex-beau. Deeply troubled by Robin's presence in Rhydin, even after her eventual reconciliation with Stephen, Jewell was driven to killing Robin in the common room of the Red Dragon in on July 2, 2008 RSC. Even though he was merely a Dream, and not the flesh-and-blood man she once knew, successfully killing Robin marked a drastic turning point in her life.

For reasons kept mostly from the public, Jewell and Stephen parted ways upon his return to Rhydin, after a very prolonged absence, in spring of 2009 RSC. Following the separation, Jewell secluded herself to her property for most of the spring and summer, spending the time alone or with her children, who had a difficult time adjusting to the separation between their mother and Stephen.

More details of Jewell’s background can be found at the: Solitaire Folder at Dragon's Mark.

Present time

On December 17, 2009 RSC a fire broke out at the Ravenlock household. Officials later found eight dead bodies in the burnt down house, causing them to declare Jewell and her seven children dead.

Unbeknownst to almost all in Rhydin, the fire was caused by Jewell's family in the Faerie Lands. They kidnapped her children and burned her house to the ground in order to impress her into service to the family in Faerie. They also arranged for the bodies to be found amongst the ruins later. Feeling she had no other choice, Jewell decided to play into her family's plan and let everyone in Rhydin believe she is dead. However, not being able to the bare the idea that her relationship with Stephen had ended badly, Jewell went to see him and set things right with him before leaving Rhydin for good.

Loyalties & Connections

Jewell’s mother hails from the Seelie courts in the Faerie realms, making her alignment naturally good (or perhaps just ‘not evil’ depending on how one looks at it). However, she rarely claims any connections in the realms or to her home planet. Rather, Jewell’s loyalties lay within her present home of Rhydin itself and the people living there.

Reputation

  • "Jewell is great. It's like anything I'm having a problem with, she's been through and understands and can talk through it with me. Jewell also? A WHOLE lot of fun. I really do enjoy hanging out with her and Stephen, even if they did start a fight on my shift almost every week for awhile. In fact? I'm proud to be a Hellfire, and it's good to have them back in town. They will always accept me for who I am, Jewell first among them. Even if I do piss her off all the time, she's never hit me. I see that as a victory. Given the woman and all." Erin Dunbridge ( User:Dani 26 December 2007 8:19 am (PST))
  • "Jewell's at the top of my list of future wives that will probably knife me while I sleep. Though in her case I probably wouldn't mind it too much since she's so darn fun. Oh, and she has blue hair too, which automatically makes her approximately 95% hotter than all the other women in RhyDin." Harris D'Artainian (Harris 12:25, 26 December 2007 (PST))
  • "I liked Jewell right off the bat when I was makin' clothes fer the movie she was doin'. She's got great style...'cept fer tha one time I caught her wearin' a deep blue dress with black stilettos but bless her she's a quick learn and 'lways open ta suggestion. Mebbe it's a fashion thing, mebbe it's the fae thing but there's somethin' 'bout her tha makes me feel connected." Koyliak VanDuran-Simon (Koyliak 7:37 PM, 26 December 2007 (EST))
  • "Jewell is super great~! I just wish she'd come to my atelier for a makeover sometime, because blue hair isn't in season anymore~! She should really consider dying her hair red~" -Elly (LL 19:50, 27 December 2007 (PST))
  • "Oh, ugh, I hate Fatty Fae!! I mean, I know she's not fat of course, but I just call her that 'cuz she hates it. Heh... I think she's just too full of herself, and ya know, she's way too violent! She's tried attackin' me before, but I went and beat her up. She is kinda useful though, I suppose... because I've made quite a few coins off her name. The Fatty Fae t-shirts sold out pretty quick, and I'm workin' out deals with a few people to start sellin' some blueberry flavored lollipops shaped like cows. Get it? Hahaha! ...just don't tell Eri, k?" -Carley Qui'Ama (LL 19:50, 27 December 2007 (PST))
  • "Jewell is one of the strongest people I know. And coming from me, that means a lot. Now, physical strength is one thing, but Jewell's got this mental toughness about her, you know? Emotionally, mentally, she's a spitfire. And she's not a bad wingman to have in a dark alley, either. I know I wouldn't be half the sweetheart she is if I had been through a quarter of the things she has. Got that?" -Isuelt DeRomiano (Isuelt DeRomiano 13:39, 7 January 2007 (PST))
  • "Jewellsie is a true gem, even if she was all set to try and catch me in a net for *another woman when we first met. What can I say?, I'm a sucker for a woman with a net. Oh and just so that it is known I had to teach her how to kiss a boy properly, thats how this whole relationship really started." —Stephen Kidd (John 16:10, 21 January 2008 (EST))
  • "There is always a level of kinship that I share with Jewell. We may be two different people from two different backgrounds, but our similar gifts and powers will provide more of a connection than any conversation." - Storm Divine (Storm Divine 15:33, 25 January 2008 (PST))
  • "There's many things I could say about Jewell Ravenlock, so I will keep it brief. I enjoy her company more than my good friend, Vodka." - Renna The Betrayer (RennaTheBetrayer 13:48, 5 February 2008 (GMT))
  • Gnort Dragoon-Talanador thinks that Jewell is all right and that their interests serve each other pretty well, especially since they both know they're using the other. Also is impressed with how, even if a fairy, she can spit out like eight thousand children and not walk bow legged. (User: G 1:35, 9 February 2008 (CST))
  • "Jewell? Hm... it's hard for me to really put in words how I feel about her. Like, sometimes she's really, well, I don't want to say crazy.. maybe zany instead? Foolhardy? Overzealous? I dunno. But it's not always so bad. I can understand how it'd be so much easier to speak your mind without a care or do whatever you want without worry of consequence. I could stand to do that more often myself. But yeah, beyond that though, she's a good friend. Really loyal. Seems to be a really good mother too. ...just wish she and Carley could get along a little better than they do." -Lydia Loran (LL 15:40, 7 March 2008 (PST))
  • "True Blue Moo Cow..? Pfft... Funny thing is..? I dun think we even have a reason t'NOT like each other, schway? We just... really fricken don't. She's one'a those chicks that'r SO annoying that'cha wanna just... hit something. I will say this, though. She's not as bad a mom as she thinks she is. Now fer all the crap about her bein' strong and fierce'n whatnot? I'll believe it when I see it, and even then, that's doubtful. There're sometimes where I feel like bein' schway with her'n crap. But then she does somethin' like... yanno, breathe. And it makes me wanna kick'r in th'teeth." - Lain Amthras (User:Lain Amthras 21:56, 19 April (CST))
  • "Jewell? You *really* want me to tell you what I think of Jewell? Will she ever find out what I'm saying? I don't like maybe... Oh well. Listen here, I'm gonna tell you this and you'd better believe it. Jewell's one of the deadliest, wildest, bluest, and definitely most interesting Fae I've ever stared at inappropriately. I mean I met her, and she nearly blasted me to wherever I'd go when I die with glowing blue stuff!! Can you believe that!? Well, that's beside the point. The point is, Jewell's definitely someone I'd rather have a good relationship with than a bad one. And besides, she looks good in blue." -Skid Trak'kal (User:Necromesh 21:01, 16 July 2008 (EST))
