Categories - What Goes Where?
In Character Categories
- Characters: Any character played in Rhydin. The template includes a section for biography, so if you want to describe unique items owned by your character or something from personal point of view, this is the place for it.
- Organizations:Clans, houses, factions, families, groups, guilds, businesses, schools, etc.
- Locations: Places in Rhydin where roleplay happens, either physically (or metaphysically) located within Rhydin. These could be other planets in the Rhydin system or anywhere on the planet Rhydin (including continents, countries, cities, villages, landmarks, streets, homes, stores and other buildings, and even vessels passing through Rhydin). Distant locations significantly tied to Rhydin via some sort of portal may be allowed, but the emphasis must be on such a location’s relevance to Rhydin: How it is accessed from within Rhydin and what its importance is to Rhydin.
- Events: In Character events occurring in Rhydin. These could include wars, invasions, auctions, duels, weddings, funerals, births, etc.
Out of Character Categories
- The Library: Articles in The Library cover OOC aspects of roleplaying in RhyDin, including the different forums/chat rooms/websites available for RhyDin roleplay, the history of Rhydin on Q-Link and AOL, Yahoo, IRC, and across the internet, how to duel in a RhyDin chat room, etc.
- Mundanes: These are “Wiki Editor” User pages for the contributors to this Wiki. They are not for character profiles. You do not have to put anything in your user page if you don't want to! Please note that these userpages should be considered “protected”. Do not edit someone else’s user page.
New Categories
If you have an idea for a new Category on the wiki, do not just create a new category. Please post your idea in the New Category Suggestions thread with:
- your proposed name for the Category,
- your proposed description of the Category, and
- a list of the initial articles (at least five) to be placed within that Category.
Contributors
How to become a Wiki Contributor
You must register at http://www.rhydinwiki.com/forum and post in the Introductions thread before you will be added to the “Wiki Editors” membergroup. Only users in the “Wiki Editors” membergroup have access to log in to the Wiki and start adding and editing.
Anonymous edits
In the interest of holding all users accountable for their contributions to this Wiki and providing proper credit and attribution to our community authors, we do not allow anonymous edits.
Wiki Edits
This wiki operates on the principles of Community Authorship and Group Authorship. Do not sign articles or add disclaimers in an attempt to assert editorial control or otherwise prevent other users from editing an article. The first four paragraphs of Wikipedia's article on Ownership of articles are useful in understanding this guideline.
You may not deem Rhydin Wiki articles you have started or contributed to as “protected” from editing without your approval. This Wiki is not a place for anyone's “personal” work to remain pristine without the possibility of being altered, changed, deleted, or completely rewritten by consensus.
If you don't want your material to be edited mercilessly or redistributed by others, do not submit it.
Wiki Contributor Edits
Adding Content
If you would like to create a new article or add information to an existing article, feel free! Please use the Help:Style Guide and Help:Templates wherever possible. This is an open wiki, so you should be prepared to discuss changes to your articles if another contributor challenges the content.
In addition to writing about your own Rhydin creations, you may create articles for Rhydin-related characters, locations, organizations, and events dreamed up by other players, as long as the original creator/founder of those characters, locations, organizations and events is credited in the Sources section by his or her best-known pseudonym and last known email address.
Changing or Deleting Content
If you would like to change or delete what someone else has written in an article, discuss it first. Please post a thread on the appropriate section of the Wiki Talk board (or submit a signed ~~~~ comment to the Talk page of that article) explaining what you would like to change, and why. Keep your discussions civil and calm, and work together in the spirit of cooperation to try to come to a consensus.
- Flagging Articles: If you feel an article needs to be refocused to relate to roleplaying in Rhydin or does not comply with the spirit of the Style Guide, please flag the article for improvement and discuss changes to the article on the Wiki Talk board.
- Fixing Typos: If you would like to correct typos or grammatical errors, discussion usually isn’t needed. Edit only if you are very sure that your change is itself correct and doesn’t significantly alter the original meaning. If there’s any doubt, discuss it on the Wiki Talk board first.
- Using Templates: If you would like to edit an article to conform with a Template, discussion usually isn’t needed. Edit only if you are sure your use of the Template is correct and doesn’t significantly alter the original meaning of the article. If there’s any doubt, discuss it on the Wiki Talk board first.
The One Week Rule
If you don’t receive any response to a suggested article change on the Wiki Talk board within one week, you may edit the article without waiting longer for discussion or consensus. Remember, there may be more discussion later!
If you are unable to come to a consensus after one week of discussion, you may request an anonymous community poll (also lasting one week) on the change.
Moderator Edits
Without warning, RhydinWiki moderators and/or administrators may:
- ask contributors to refocus an article if it does not directly relate to roleplaying in Rhydin, does not use an available Template, or does not comply with the Style Guide.
- merge articles or categories if they appear to be duplicates.
- move articles if they are not placed in the proper category.
- move articles out of their categories if they do not comply with the Style Guide or if they need to be refocused.
- edit articles to use an available Template or comply with the Style Guide.
- revert articles if they have been changed without discussion.
- edit or remove articles if another contributor challenges material for which no source can be provided.
- edit or remove articles if the material has been plagiarized.
- edit or remove articles if the material is objectionable (such as inflammatory statements or defacement).
- edit or remove articles that contain numerous headings without content, when the author hasn’t provided a note explaining the omissions.
- remove articles which consist of brief “filler” statements intended only to clear a redlink.
- remove articles that breach this site’s license (Creative Commons, Attribution - Noncommercial - Share Alike 3.0 Unported License.)
- remove images that do not provide the required source, license, date, and author information.
- When requested in good faith by a contributor, remove articles written solely by that contributor.
- grant involuntary vacations to users who violate the policies and procedures in this Moderation Guide, the Style Guide, and the Community Guidelines.
We may do lots of other things, too.
License
Rhydin Wiki is operated under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license. If you contribute material to the Rhydin Wiki, you thereby license it to the public under that Creative Commons license.
In order to contribute, you must be in a position to grant this license, which means that either:
- you hold the copyright to the material, for instance because you produced it yourself, or
- you acquired the material from a source that allows this license, for instance because the material is in the public domain or is itself published under a Creative Commons License or GNU Free Documentation License.
In the first case, you retain copyright to your materials. You can later republish and relicense them in any way you like. However, you can never retract the Creative Commons license for the copies of materials that you place here; these copies will remain under the CC license forever. In the second case, if you incorporate external Creative Commons or GFDL materials, as a requirement of those licenses, you need to acknowledge the authorship and provide a link back to the network location of the original copy.
The license we’re using is very clear that adaptations are permitted. If you do not agree to license your work under the terms of the “copyleft” Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike license we are using on this Wiki, do not submit your content here.
Attribution and Credits
Attribution, credits, and explicit descriptions of adaptations are all already handled automatically via the individual History page linked to each Wiki article. Attributions and credits for external articles licensed under a Creative Commons copyleft should be described under a ==Sources== (for Rhydin releated sources and credits) or ==Recommended Reading== (for non-Rhydin related sources and credits) subheading. We believe this is "reasonable" and don't think we need to include any additional policies to make sure that people attribute each other in subsequent wiki edits.
Image Licenses
All images uploaded to this wiki will be automatically licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license, or, if so designated, under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 Unported license.
When you upload an image, particularly if it is an image created by someone else, you MUST provide the license information, whether it's one of the two Creative Commons licenses above or some other free / public domain license. Do not guess or speculate whether the copyright holder is amenable to having the image released under the license we use on RhydinWiki. If there is any doubt, contact the copyright holder and ask.
